If football and fine cuisine are your favourite things, then try this restaurant. Although you won't find find Gary Rhodes in the kitchen, but his brand of lovingly-prepared modern British cuisine graces the menu and his quirky outlook informs the whole funky enterprise. Lively, fun atmosphere. Favourites include smoked haddock topped with Welsh rarebit on salad, slowly braised lamb shank with creamed potatoes, and roast salt and peppered duck breast with spicy plums. There are great express lunch menus and children's menu. MyVillage

If you want proper Michelin starred cooking in Manchester, don't miss this restaurant with the Michelin starred chef Paul Heathcote at the healm. The evening we frequented it was full of trendy foody types obviously enjoying the best of what Manchester has to offer. The food was wonderful and the staff excellent, although I did have to do a double-take at the size of the bill. Good, but not that good I'm afraid. If it's Michelin cooking you're after, you're in the right place, but not necessarily for value-for-money. Suzy and John 1/03/02

This Manchester institution has wicked food, great service and a lovely atmosphere. It's definately one of Manchester's top restaurants for reliability and consistency, not too expensive and just the right mix of Asian dishes on the menu. Try the set lunch if you've got a hungary stomach and a skinny wallet. Jasmine 5/05/02
